Description

JSW729 Morenci Turquoise Cuff

Sterling silver cuff by Navajo silversmith Jonathon Mike. The 1 1/2” hand stamped cuff has a 1/2” x 5/8” Morenci turquoise stone. The inside is 5 3/4” with a 1 1/4” gap.

The Morenci mine is in southeastern Arizona and is now closed and buried under tons of rock. The land was leeched with chemicals that would destroy any trace of turquoise, which means that there is never a chance to re-open this mine. The former miners of Morenci still have quite a stash of rough stone, enough to release a small amount every year to keep it available.

Jonathan was born October 18, 1966 and has been an active silversmith since 1990. Jonathan is from the Nakai-Mexican clan.  He works in sterling silver with high quality stones, most frequently using Turquoise.  Jonathan Mike was among this select few silversmiths at the White Hogan in Scottsdale.
