JSW602 Dragonfly Pendant

Tufa cast sterling silver dragonfly pendant by Navajo silversmith Jack Tom. The 1 3/4” x 2 1/4” dragonfly has a square coral stone in the center and a carnelian cabochon on the tail. A 1/2’ bale makes a total length of 2 3/4”. Hallmark: JT

Jack Tom uses a lot of lightning patterns in his jewelry.  His great-grandmother was Hopi so he uses Hopi patterns as well as the traditional Navajo designs.  He also incorporates Navajo rug patterns and Anasazi patterns in his work.  He believes the “Old Ones” left their designs for others (him) to use.

To the Navajo tribe, the dragonfly is a symbol of water, and dragonfly images frequently appear in sacred sandpaintings to represent the element of water.
